If you love imaging celestial objects, Astronomy magazine is giving you the chance to show off your work in the 2009 Astronomy Astroimaging Contest.
The competition offers three categories: Deep-sky, Solar system, and General. In addition to these winners, we'll choose one image as the grand prize winner — the best of the best.
See below for a list of the great prizes we rounded up to encourage participation.
We'll showcase all the winners in our September issue. So open up your star atlas, cool down your scope, and target your favorite sky treat.

Contest rules
- The image must feature an astronomical subject in one of the three categories: Deep-Sky, Solar System, or General.
- One entry per contestant.
- Composite images (those made from multiple exposures) are allowed.
- Please include a description of the subject featured, the name and address of the imager, equipment used, and exposure time(s).
- All images must be submitted by April 15, 2009.
- No images/disks will be returned.
- If Astronomy selects non-winning images for publication, we will pay submitters at normal rates.
- Judging will be conducted by the Astronomy staff.
- Kalmbach Publishing Co., Rancho Hidalgo, and Arizona Sky Village employees and their families are not eligible to enter this contest.
- Cash payout will be awarded following the completion of your stay at Rancho Hidalgo/Arizona Sky Village. Travel arrangements to and from Rancho Hidalgo are the responsibility of the grand-prize winner, who will need to arrange a time with the Rancho Hidalgo staff.

Grand prize — An astronomical getaway!
A 5-night stay at Arizona Sky Village in Portal, Arizona, or Rancho Hidalgo Astronomy Village in Animas, New Mexico (worth $3,500), plus $1,000 to cover airfare, car-rental, and food.
