What's going on here?" muttered astronomer Barry Madore, half to himself and half to me, as we stared at strange filaments oozing from the galaxy M82. It was weird, all right. The brand new image from the colossal 6.5-meter Magellan telescope in Chile showed thin feathery strands streaming out from the galaxy's edges.
