April 2009: This eclipse phenomenon can surface more often than you'd expect.
In my March 2009 column, when I told you about the wonder of seeing shadow bands without an eclipse, I had no idea that searching for these phantom serpents of the air (which slither in long dark waves and patches across bright surfaces) would become so habit forming. I was going to let the subject slide for a few months, but my enthusiasm to share with you some more observations overtook me.
