Merging neutron stars make ultra-strong magnetic fields
For the first time, simulations track intensified magnetic fields as neutron stars merge.

Likely culprits for short gamma-ray bursts, some of the brightest explosions since the Big Bang, include coalescing neutron stars. In May 2006, Daniel Price at the University of Exeter in England and Stephan Rosswog (International University, Bremen, Germany) showed that such collisions can create some of the strongest magnetic fields in the universe. |
