Deep Sky reprint: The other Lyra
This classic from the summer of 1989 profiles faint galaxies and hidden treasures within the constellation Lyra.

| Think of Lyra and you probably recall visions of the Ring Nebula, Epsilon's gleaming twin binary systems, or maybe the cascade of stars that makes up globular M56. It is hard to associate galaxies with Lyra. Galaxy viewing in Lyra is like skiing in sunny, hot Arizona: something that seemingly just can't be, bunt in both instances is very much the case. NGC 2000.0 lists 39 NGC and IC objects in Lyra, and all but four are galaxies. Lyra is indeed loaded with faint galaxies and other sights neglected by popular guides to the sky. |
