Filmmakers Harun Mehmedinovic and Gavin Heffernan traveled to remote locations to capture America’s last dark skies for their Skyglow project, a new video series about light pollution.

In just one century, streetlights have gone from big-city marvel to a civilization mainstay, washing out the night sky with them in the process. Streetlights are now the leading cause of light pollution. That glow from our cities and towns creeps out, not only ruining the view for astronomers, but also wasting energy and affecting wildlife as well as human health.
