Weatherproof paper

Don’t let the dew point dampen your enthusiasm for sketching.

Damp paper. It’s the bane of any astronomical sketcher who observes when the humidity is high. Moisture can warp and deteriorate paper to the point where blending or erasing is nearly impossible. Even the stroke of a pencil risks a tear. During such conditions, you’ll have better luck if you select heavyweight material that can withstand dew. Or, better yet, arm yourself with a water-resistant brand.

I use a durable, weatherproof paper made by Rite in the Rain (www.riteintherain.com). It holds its integrity throughout long sketching sessions, no matter how saturated the night air might be. The company has a selection of styles to choose from, including various sizes, patterns, and bindings.
