How to kill a rover

Both rovers are still running, long after their warranties expired. This is a tribute to engineers who spent a lot of time thinking about the many ways a rover can die.
Long and bitter experience has taught NASA that the martian environment has a knack for destroying landers and rovers. Technical slip-ups aside, dust storms and plunging temperatures conspire to reduce power levels, sever electronic connections, and break parts.
