Phil Harrington's binocular universe (May 2006 online extra)
In addition to the objects listed in "Big Dipper, part one," here are three more binocular targets in and around the Big Dipper's Bowl.
R Ursae Majoris is a long-period variable star that cycles between magnitudes 7.5 and 13.0 during a 302-day period. Unfortunately, the star is near minimum brightness this spring, but it will brighten throughout the summer and fall. It should reach maximum brightness in early October.
