The 6th Starmus Festival, which will bring together scientists, musicians, artists, engineers, and astronauts to celebrate 50 years on Mars, will take place Sept. 5 through Sept. 10, 2022, in Yerevan, Armenia. Throughout the multi-day event, festival goers will be treated to dozens of talks by world-class speakers covering topics such as astronomy, planetary science, chemistry, biology, and — the focus this year — the past half-century of Mars exploration.
Speakers that have already been announced for this event include: black hole researcher and Nobel Prize winner Kip Thorne, astronauts Charlie Duke and Chris Hadfield, SETI pioneer Jill Tarter, astrobiologist David Grinspoon, festival founder Garik Israelian, physicist Brian Greene, and Astronomy magazine Editor David J. Eicher.
In the days leading up to the festival, an astrophotography school will be held at Apricot Aghveran Resort. Additionally, before the festival, Explore Scientific will provide a variety of telescopes for use during a dark-sky star party.
The Starmus Festival is an energetic mix of art, science, and music. In addition to compelling scientific talks, previous festivals have included musical performances by the likes of legendary Queen guitarist Brian May, Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, Grace Potter, and Hans Zimmer — just to name a few. This year, attendees can expect to hear the sounds of the supergroup Sons of Apollo, the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra, and other artists to be named at a later date.
Stayed tuned, too, as more announcements about the festival are coming soon. Starmus organizers plan to hold a press conference on June 16, where they will reveal the Starmus VI Festival program to the world.
