In the February 2013 issue of Astronomy, Ronald Stoyan wrote a story named “Sketching the Orion Nebula.” The author talked about several famous historical sketches of the nebula and discussed his project, during which he produced his own huge detailed sketch.

If you’d like to learn more about the object he sketched, check out “View the sky’s greatest nebula” by Astronomy Contributing Editor Ray Shubinski. His article is a great overview that combines observational history, modern scientific research, and details that amateur astronomers can use in their own telescopic studies of this standout celestial object.
