The 6th Starmus Festival, the international gathering of science, will take place September 5–10, 2022, in Yerevan, Armenia. Once again Astronomy magazine is proud to participate as the exclusive media partner of the event. The festival brings together several thousand people for public talks on astronomy, planetary science, cosmology, and related sciences such as chemistry, physics, and biology, from a large pool of world-class speakers.

The first round of speakers has been announced and includes: Apollo astronaut Charlie Duke, black hole researcher Kip Thorne, astronaut and artist Nicole Stott, cosmologist George Smoot, festival director and astronomer Garik Israelian, SETI pioneer Jill Tarter, and Astronomy magazine Editor David Eicher. More speakers will be announced over the coming weeks.

Starmus is famous for offering a casual and intimate atmosphere in which the world-class speakers are accessible in a relaxed environment. Moreover, the festival mixes the arts with science, offering incredible rock ‘n’ roll concert experiences — past performers have included Starmus cofounder and Queen legend Brian May as well as stars Rick Wakeman, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, Hans Zimmer, Steve Vai, Grace Potter, and Sarah Brightman.

Further, the festival will include a dark-sky star party with large telescopes, the possibility of attending astroimaging workshops, and a number of surprises that will be announced over the coming weeks.

The festival’s theme, “50 Years on Mars,” celebrates the half-century anniversary of the first spacecraft to visit the Red Planet. Special talks will focus on our exploration of Mars and what the coming years are likely to bring.
