This video recaps the stellar landing of Huygens on Titan

In 2005, ESA did something no craft had ever done before ... land on an alien moon.

In 2005, ESA’s Cassini-Huygens mission became the first spacecraft to ever land on a moon outside of our own when it dove below the atmosphere Saturn’s largest moon, Titan. Huygens also made history in this is still the furthest successful landing from Earth a spacecraft has ever made.

The Hugyens lander separated from NASA’s Cassini probe in December of 2004, and successfully landed onto Saturn’s Moon, Titan, which is the second largest moon in the solar system and the only one with a dense atmosphere, on January 14, 2005.

NASA released a video on January 11 to, made from images taken by Huygens, to recap the successful landing. Let’s hope this isn’t the last time we make land fall on Titan.
