It happened in a flash. On the morning of November 17, 2006, I was scanning the predawn sky for Leonid meteors when a magnificent magnitude –4 bolide charged from the zenith. It terminated about 20° above the eastern horizon in an unusually bright explosion of white light. Sparks flew in all directions from that final burst before the meteor vanished.
