Drew Evans, imaged from Flagstaff, Arizona; additional processing by Utkarsh Mishra
Another faint OIII nebula has been discovered by amateur astronomers — this time, a likely planetary nebula, appearing here as the small red doughnut in the middle of this image. The object is designated HorFulEvReb 1 after its discoverers: Drew Evans, Jeffrey Horne, Brian Fulda, and Jaša Rebula. Evans has nicknamed it “Sam’s Nebula” in honor of his father, who recently passed away. This Hα/OIII/LRGB image represents 41.3 hours of exposure; nearly half of that was dedicated to OIII.
