Allen Hwang from Deming, New Mexico
While out looking for Perseid meteors around 12:30 a.m. the morning of Aug. 12 in New Mexico, this photographer could see “a faint pink glow … on the northern horizon” — an auroral display from G4-level geomagnetic storms that peaked this weekend. This 20-second exposure was taken with a Nikon DSLR at ISO 1600 and zoom lens at 24mm and f/2.8.
