Associate Editor:
Kalmbach Media Co. has an outstanding career opportunity for an Associate Editor with Astronomy Magazine. Due to a recent change, Kalmbach Media is currently seeking an Associate Editor for Astronomy Magazine, the world’s leading title on the subject, and to work in partnership with its sister title, Discover Magazine. These award-winning national science brands are based in our Waukesha office. The Associate Editor will be an editor/writer who knows the science of astronomy and is a self-starter, team player, and energetic person.
Job duties and responsibilities
- Produces and edits stories for the magazine and special issues in a creative, timely manner
- Produces digital content for Astronomy and Discover’s websites
- Produces creative ideas and help to oversee production of science ecommerce products
- A good communicator with other editors
Education and experience
- A BS degree in physics, astronomy, journalism, or English
- 4 years of experience working on print or digital media
- Experience and knowledge of astronomy and interest in related sciences
- An analytical approach to thinking and problem solving

Staff Writer:
Kalmbach Media, a publisher of science and hobby magazines and websites, is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic and inquisitive staff writer for its growing Astronomy.com website. This position will be heavily focused on writing web articles that will support our digital growth goals. You will play an integral role in helping us deliver more frequent content across our website dedicated to reporting on the latest astronomical news, science, sky events and spaceflight journeys for our large online audience.
Job duties and responsibilities
- Write 8+ articles per week for Astronomy.com, including informational pieces, news and embargoed studies, and trending topics.
- Utilize engaging headlines and ledes, as well as SEO best practices where appropriate.
- Pitch new story ideas across all content categories, aimed at supporting website traffic goals.
- Collaborate with the Astronomy digital editor on weekly web coverage and new content opportunities.
Education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications or relevant discipline.
- 2-4 years’ experience writing content for the web.
- Interest in/knowledge of astronomy topics.
- Ability to write clean copy at a high frequency.
