World-famous scientist Stephen Hawking was hospitalized today, according to officials at Cambridge University in England, where the professor works. He is suffering from a chest infection and was described as “very ill” earlier in the day. However, his condition has improved, according to Gregory Hayman, the head of communications at Cambridge. “He is comfortable and will spend the night (at the hospital),” Hayman said.

He is widely regarded for his work on theories regarding black holes. The scientist suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and uses a wheelchair. He communicates with a voice synthesizer.
