In 2016, astronomers announced the discovery of the farthest galaxy ever seen. The inset image of the distant galaxy, GN-z11, shows how it looked just 400 million years after the Big Bang. Though GN-z11 is packed with bright, young, blue stars, it appears red because the expansion of the universe has drastically redshifted its light.
