Massive star cluster Westerlund 1 is home to the magnetar CXOU J164710.2–455216, an anomalous X-ray pulsar (AXP) . Astronomers discovered the object, which spins once every 10.6 seconds, in 2005. They hope to uncover additional magnetars as they explore the Milky Way’s most massive star clusters.
