The Flaming Star Nebula (IC 405) in Auriga glows red in reality due to the star AE Aurigae. But this narrowband image, taken with 11 hours of exposure on an 11-inch scope, renders it in false color. The image was not taken in exactly the traditional Hubble palette (SHO), but uses the Askar ColorMagic D1 (Ha/OIII) and D2 (SII/OIII) duo-narrowband filters to achieve similar results. The filters are intended to help imagers obtain more OIII data, which is typically the weakest channel in narrowband deep-sky imaging.
